Glass makers accepting commissions

Frequently we get enquiries from people wanting something made in glass, either as a gift or replacement. I advise them to check out the glassmakers, engravers, craftspeople listed in our links section HERE . Also to ask the Scottish Glass Society.

Glassmakers that register and log-in on this site can write details of the types work they can do using the user menu button Submit Web Link. Collectors can help by alerting glassmakers to this free advertising of their services. Ask in the forums if your link needs updating HERE please .

Design a Front Page Competition

CLOSING DATE - 1st July 2008 - voting throughout July

I would like to have a new front page for this site (replacing this one: scotlandsglass.co.uk ), which includes a very brief description and an ENTER button. No need to understand how to do it, a drawing on paper is all that is required, but HTML would be even better. It would be nice to include pictures of ancient and modern Scottish Glass, but something stylish would do too. Perhaps someone can suggest a new entry text?

There is a thread in the General Questions forum where you can react. You will be acknowledged on the new page, so include that in your design. The prize is fame Cool Thank you.

Scotland's Glass

This website aims to provide information and a showcase of Scottish Glass, past and present.

Incorporating anyone who has been involved with Scottish glass, whether maker, designer, packer, etc., will help to document the influences on Scotland from outside and the influences of Scottish glass on the wider world. Glass is a dynamic industry; glassmakers have proved to be great travellers, and this has resulted in the rapid spread of ideas and a remakable fusing of cultural aesthetics.

It is possible for others to co-operate in building this site by providing articles. To preserve its integrity, the site will only be open to verified applicants. We need researchers, editors, historians and PHP open-source programmers.

Hopefully, others will take this concept to different regions of glassmaking so we can eventually link to provide a broader picture of the web of glass.

Registration

Registration on Scotland's Glass allows you to post in the forums and add links to Scottish glass resources. Galleries and glass sellers can give their contact details in the appropriate forum as well as adding a link to their website.

Building a Community

Other researchers/writers who would like to add and manage their own content/articles directly, please contact me via the Contact option to discuss. Translating material or editing services will also be appreciated.

Donations

The donation facilty has been removed, as it had too many problems. Instead, please support this website by buying a subscription to the Glass Zoo:

Vasart Bear
The Glass Zoo
.

Subscriptions to this site are 10 euros for two years (40 Euros for life). You will be helping to build this database of glass figures for the collecting community in addition to supporting the growth of Scotland's Glass. Images are also needed for the Zoo please.

Just click on the Vasart bear to get to the Glass Zoo.

Glass Articles

Articles are always needed. They can be about a single person, subject or company, or they can be general. The only guideline is that they relate to Scotland and glass.

Glass Catalogues

These informational catalogues will continue expanding to include all available glass images. Images are being provided by glassmakers, dealers and collectors - anyone can contribute.

The catalogues are dependent on input from collectors as well as invaluable assistance from Caithness Glass and other companies. All images are copyright, and the copyright owner is indicated in the text. Please do not take these images without consent. The left-hand menus enable you to view items by design type, designer or year of production, in some cases. Many images are clickable, but, in general, you should click on Product Details... to get more information about an item.

Use the advanced search to find by content that is not on a menu, for example, "Collectors Society" or "Nature Study". We already have examples of Caithness that have not appeared in the published catalogues, neither Charlton nor Caithness.

The growth of this catalogue is up to you! Where images have sourced from catalogues with Caithness's consent, there are no additional views. Examples to replace catalogue images and showing different views are welcome.

Mistakes will pop up from time to time, so it would be helpful if you let us know of any you spot. Thank you and enjoy...

The List

This is a chronological list, with data sources, of the people and companies who have been and are involved in Scottish Glass. If you want items added, please send the content and reference sources via the forums or the contact link. The forum option is preferred, as it allows the details to be discussed openly. NB: No updates have been made to the list since 2006 because of the time it takes to manage the static format. If anyone can help to create a database that works within Joomla!, it would be much appreciated; please get in touch.

Forums

These allow any registered visitor to chat about Scottish Glass. Several forums have been created, and more can be added as needed.
